Manage an organization — Unity Intelligence

An organization gives a company a membership directory, teams, sharing policies, and ownership of newly created reports. It does not automatically grant members access to each other's report content.

You can use Unity personally without an organization. An account can belong to one active organization at a time.

Create or open an organization

Open the account icon in the header.
Select Organization & teams.
If you do not belong to an organization, click Create organization.
Enter its name and save.
Review the settings in General before inviting people.

The creator becomes an organization Owner. New reports created while you belong to the organization are company reports and stay private until shared.

Existing personal reports are not automatically moved when you create or join an organization.

Navigate the organization workspace

Area	Purpose
General	Organization name, sharing policy, member team-creation policy, and owner lifecycle controls.
People	Member directory, management roles, invitations, removal, and leaving.
Teams	Search teams, open their members/reports/settings, and create teams where permitted.
Activity	Recorded access and management events for organization managers.

The member and team directories support search and status filtering. An archived or removed record is different from an active member or team.

Organization settings and invitation acceptance require a signed-in browser session, but do not require an active report subscription.

Organization roles

Role	Authority
Member	Read the member directory, create private company reports, and create teams when policy allows.
Admin	Manage ordinary membership and teams, and read access activity.
Owner	Admin capabilities, owner appointments, organization settings, archive/restore, and explicit company-report recovery.

Only Owners can appoint or demote Owners. The last active organization Owner cannot leave or be demoted until another Owner is appointed.

These roles manage the organization. They do not replace View, Edit, Admin, or Owner permissions on individual reports.

In General, an Owner can set Keep sharing inside the organization.

Setting	Effect
On	Company reports can be shared with active members and eligible teams in the organization. Existing external grants are blocked while the policy is on.
Off	External individual shares can be allowed. Each report still requires an explicit grant.

The policy defaults to On for new organizations. It affects ongoing eligibility, not only the moment a person is first shared onto a report.

Changing the policy does not delete the existing external share records. This differs from offboarding, which revokes company access through its own workflow.

Configure team creation

Let members create teams determines whether ordinary members can create teams. Organization managers can manage teams according to their role.

Teams are flat groups within the organization. Creating a team does not automatically add reports or grant access to private report content.

Invite and offboard people

Use People → Invite person to create an invitation. The resulting link is copyable; Unity does not automatically send an invitation email.

Accepting membership and sharing reports are separate steps. After someone joins, add them to appropriate teams and explicitly share the intended reports.

Removing a member preserves company reports and source records while removing membership and associated access paths. Rejoining does not restore old report ownership, shares, or team roles automatically.

Understand company reports

Organization ownership records which company a report belongs to. A human report Owner still manages the report's sharing and ordinary transfer.

An organization Owner can recover a known company report to a current member through an explicit audited action. The organization role does not provide a general browser of everyone's report content.

Archive or restore

An Owner can open General → Ownership & lifecycle and choose Archive organization. Archiving pauses access to company reports while retaining records.

Restore organization reevaluates access under current membership, shares, and policy. It does not invent new grants or restore previously offboarded membership.

A report-creation dialog will ask you to restore or leave an archived organization before creating another report.

Review activity

Organization managers can use Activity to inspect recorded membership, sharing, lifecycle, and recovery events. A report ID in an activity record does not by itself grant access to the report.

Unity's organization controls cover membership and report authorization. They do not provision a company identity provider or automatically grant source-database privileges.
